The Simple Path - Part 3 - Simple Rules - Exodus 3v11-16 // March 2nd, 2025

Teaching overview

This week’s teaching, Riley's stated, if it is not God making the rules, someone else will. God’s rules (the Ten Commandments) flow out of His character. Mankind likes to create their own rules apart from God’ which leads to despair, anxiety, abandonment and anguish. The way of Jesus offers a simple, easy yoke. When we live at His pace and submit to His rules, we find rest, goodness, and contentment.

Our prayer for your Community

This week, ask the Lord; “Help me to embrace Your wisdom and walk in the simplicity of Your path, trusting that Your commands lead to true rest and peace. Teach me to follow Jesus’ easy yoke, surrendering my own ways for the fullness of life in You."

Group questions

  1. How is God speaking to you through this passage or idea? (Seek)

  2. In what specific ways can you follow Jesus into deeper faith in light of this passage? (Practice)

  3. How can we as a group support you in living out what we’ve discussed this week? (Mission)

For further meditation through the rest of your week…

  1. Take time to meditate on Exodus 3:14, where God reveals His name as "I am who I am." Consider how God's eternal nature and authority over creation establish the foundation for His commandments. Reflect on how embracing God's rules, rooted in His identity, can bring clarity and direction to your life this week.

  2. Meditate on Matthew 11:28-30, where Jesus invites us to come to Him for rest and to take His yoke upon us. Reflect on what it means to align your life with Jesus' teachings and pace. Consider areas of your life where you can surrender to His guidance, trusting that His yoke is gentle and His burden is light.

  3. Throughout the week, revisit the principles outlined in the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) as part of Jesus' yoke. Each day, focus on one commandment and how it applies to your relationships, decisions, and daily interactions. Meditate on how following these guidelines can simplify your life and deepen your relationship with God and others.
